Mongolia offers accommodations that are of Western standard in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, but note that the prices for such accommodation are relatively high. Guest houses are very common throughout the country and can be found for very low nightly rates in the off-season. For those traveling outside of the capital city, many of the rural and countryside towns offer older hotels leftover from the country’s Soviet era. Ger-camps (traditional Mongolian dwellings) are found throughout the country and available for tourists to stay in. Gers offer a great opportunity for visitors to experience traditional Mongolian hospitality, although it should be noted they are often located off the beaten track and outside of the major cities and towns.
